Sydney Writer's Festival

For those who know me well, I love books. Like *really* love them. So much so that I was somehow lucky enough to head up to Sydney for last weekend and attend an event at the Sydney Writer's Festival!

The event I attended was TeenCon, a part of the "All Day YA" portion of the festival, at Riverside theatre, Parramatta. (Which was like in the middle of nowhere, it turns out, aha)
It was REALLY AMAZING! The atmosphere was electric, and I got the latest goss on upcoming releases in the YA genre!!!

It started out with everyone getting a free advance review/reader copy of an upcoming book, and then representatives of major publishing firms (Simon & Schuster, Penguin Random House, Text, Harlequin, Harper Collins and a bunch of others I've since forgotten oops) each giving a presentation of upcoming books from their respective houses! This was interspersed with the MCs giving away more books, and having quizzes. The presenters made everything humorous, my sides actually started to hurt, and to top it off- there was an ask the publishing house panel, where I learnt where to get my mitts on some more advanced readers copies!

I walked out of the event with two books (For free! Free books are the best kind of books, I promise)- "If it Makes You Happy" (Claire Kann) and When the Ground is Hard (Malla Nunn). I'll read them soon(ish), and you'll be able to see my reviews of the books on my own blog here! :D

(I'm lowkey excited for the Melbourne Writer's Festival- I hear it's being held at the State Library this year!)

Below are some quick photos I took whilst I was there:

Hello World! (Welcome to our first blog post!)

We're really excited to bring this blog to life, and what better way to open it than to showcase one of the events we've run recently!

We recently went to Vic's Bar (in the Victoria Hotel) and saw 23 and Disappointed, a show that was part of the 2019 Melbourne International Comedy Festival!

Here's a slideshow of some of the photos we took on the night- you can also see this on our drama page!
